Description

From Keeping:

From: Aranzazu Borrachero <>

My students published their Chronicle on Tuesday, but more than half of the publications and entry forms do not show in the dashboard (only 6 out of 20 are there). I noticed it while they were publishing during class, but I thought it might be an issue of actualization delays, since there was a message that might indicate so (see attached). There is also a message about an “unlicensed plugin” (attached too). Both messages are on the Gravity Form page.

Thanks for your help!

Do you know of any free alternatives?

We have a license to use Gravity Forms. I don't know why you'd be seeing a notice that says otherwise.

In any case, it's not clear to me that a GF license issue would cause some, but not all, entries to be "missing". I would need to do some investigation.

Can you please share the URL of the affected site, and ideally a link to the specific page in the Dashboard where the user is looking?

Please add Syelle Graves to this ticket as a watcher.

She replies:
I just now submitted a test entry through the form which is located here https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/submit/, and it did not coming through--the entry I submitted does not show in the list of gravity form entries or the list of post drafts.

The form is still active and I can't see any changes made to it that might be preventing submissions https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/admin.php?id=1&page=gf_edit_forms. Could you try a test submission and confirm that you can recreate the bug?

Best,

When I clicked on the link she provided, I see a warning which says "This form has legacy markup enabled, which may prevent some new features from functioning.

Legacy markup will be removed from Gravity Forms in version 3.1.0, and then all forms will use modern markup. We recommend updating this form's settings to use modern markup."

I tried a test submission and it went through OK. See https://weauthors.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/admin.php?id=1&page=gf_entries

Syelle, if you're still having problems, please share some more precise information about how you're submitting:

1. Are you logged into the Commons? If so, with what user?
2. Exactly what are you entering into the form? Perhaps you can take a screenshot or a screencast.
3. Are you getting a success message after submission? Please share a screenshot.
4. Please take note of the precise time when you are testing, so that I can check the access logs.

I think I solved it. All in Chrome, I submitted a test entry logged out (the way most of these students use the form) and it was not received (again). I logged in and submitted a test entry, and it was received.

So I checked the form settings, and under Anti-spam honeypot > If the honeypot flags a submission as spam: > "Do not create an entry" radio was selected. I changed the setting to "Create an entry and mark it as spam," logged out, did one more test entry, and this submission was received (though not marked as spam). I did an additional test logged out, in Firefox, which was successful.

Funny note that I got different submission confirmation messages--a custom message when it did go through, after I changed the form setting ("Thank you for submitting your writing! Your instructor will publish it on the website soon.") and the generic message when it did not go through.

I'll reply to the email thread and ask the instructor to request that her students try the form again. I can come back to this ticket with an update when I get one from her.
