Description

The Committee on Globalization and Social Change contacted me this week, asking to

I'm the program assistant for the Committee on Globalization & Social Change, and we recently moved our website to the GC Drupal site. Is it possible to take down our old Commons URL, https://globalization.gc.cuny.edu/?

I asked whether they wanted it deleted, made private, or something else, and here is how they responded:

Our main goal is that the site no longer appear in search engines, just to clean things up. (It currently redirects to the correct site.) If that’s possible without deleting the site, that would be fine.

Can you please change the site privacy? I tried but didn't remember how to get in through the mapped domain. And given what happened with the Political Science site, can we possibly make media library items match the new privacy level?

I've changed the setting at https://globalization.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/options-reading.php to 'Discourage search engines from indexing this site'. This won't immediately remove it from search engines - it'll take months.

And given what happened with the Political Science site, can we possibly make media library items match the new privacy level?

Our current setup protects uploaded files only when the privacy setting for the site is set to 'I would like my site to be visible only to registered users...' or stricter. The 'Discourage search engines' setting doesn't block access to WP pages, and thus it doesn't block access to uploaded files either. If those uploaded files are primarily linked to from the site, then they will eventually lose their Google juice. But if a site owner wants items to be truly private, then they must change to a stricter privacy setting at wp-admin/options-reading.php.

Thank you. I think that in this case, we should just make the Globalization site visible to site admins, if that's okay. I don't think they want it public at all, though they don't necessarily need it deleted. If you could help with that, I would appreciate it.

FYI, when I visit in an incognito browser, I do still see a page. Is that correct? Screenshot attached

I've just flushed the Litespeed static cache for the site. Please try again.
