Description

"Hi, I am Anthony Picciano and have been the author of Tony's Thoughts since 2009. My following according to the counter that you guys asked me to install has been fairly popular over these years. Yesterday, however, I noticed that a feature of the blog I use that automatically would allow me to repost on Facebook and Linkedin is now blocked by the two social media sites. I can still automatically repost to Twitter.

My question : Is it me alone who is blocked or is everybody on the CUNY Commons blocked?

Attached please find a screenshpt of the message I get from Facebook. I get a similar one on Linkedin

Thanks for these additional screenshots. From what I can see, the issue is not that "reposting" is not possible. Instead, it seems as if Facebook and Twitter may be blocked from getting preview content from the Commons. So you would be able to post the item to those sites, but the inline preview may not work as expected. (If I'm misunderstanding, please post detailed information, of the form "Normally I do X and I expect to see Y; now I click X and see Z".) The Commons technical team has been making changes recently to reduce problems with automated traffic to the Commons, and I suspect that these changes may be partly responsible for the blocking of the social media preview feature. I've reached out to our hosting provider and will circle back when I have some more clarity.

Our host has reported that they've made some changes to ease the firewall rules here. Could Anthony try again to see if the same thing is happening?

Thanks, Boone. And Anthony and I have a plan to Zoom tomorrow so I'll be able to give a more detailed report.

No change so far - "I just tried a test posting and got the same result on Facebook and Linkedin. The Commons posting did not automatically post to either. I received the same messages as I forwarded to you earlier."

Thanks, Marilyn. And thanks in advance for meeting with Anthony to get a better understanding of what's happening here. The language of the report leads me to believe that there may be more than one problem, or perhaps a single problem that's not being clearly explained. In your call with Anthony, could I ask you to please take careful note of the following:

1. See if you can tease out what "automatic reposting" means here. I'm not seeing anything in the screenshots that indicates anything that I would call "automatic", but it could be that there's something gap in the explanation.
2. If you are able to reproduce the behavior from the screenshots, please take careful note of the exact time when you're making the attempt, and the URL of the post that you're trying to preview. This will help me work with Reclaim to look through access logs to identify potential problems.
