Description

Via Keeping:

"I know that the federally-mandated accessibility deadline has been postponed, but I would still like to know how we are expected to handle accessibility issues for our Commons content. Is WCAG compliance going to be tackled by Commons admin, or should I be worrying about finding accessible blog templates (and so on) in the near term? Let me know!"

Colin and Scott, are there some sitewide statements about accessibility policy that we could point the user to?

Hi Boone - In our Help site we have a general site about accessibility - https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/accessibility/ which links to four different pages:
Background on Web Accessibility Guidelines
Four Principles for Accessibility
Evaluating Site Accessibility
Building Accessible Sites and Groups

I think for this particular issue, this link might be the best - https://help.commons.gc.cuny.edu/site-accessibility/

This one too is good for courses on the Commons - https://help.commons.gc.cuny.edu/making-your-course-accessible/

- Building Accessible Sites and Groups https://help.commons.gc.cuny.edu/making-your-course-accessible/

To paraphrase: The CUNY Academic Commons is built using the WordPress web framework, which adheres to the WCAG 2.2 standards. Therefore the framework of the Commons itself, all main Commons pages, and the functionality built into the Commons sites and groups are, by default, accessible. The themes available on Commons sites are also built to be accessible and responsive. The Commons Development Team integrates accessibility checks into its design and development processes on an ongoing basis.

However, this does not mean all content hosted on the Commons is fully accessible. Commons users can add content to site pages and posts, within groups, and upload media. The Commons team does not control what users create or upload so it is the responsibility of the user to make sure the content they add to the Commons adheres to accessibility standards.
