Ideas for Improvements to Group Docs
Having collaborated with a group that used group docs extensively, I have these suggestions for the plugin:
-- ability to search group docs
-- ability to filter by contributor name
-- ability to filter by doc type

Good suggestions. We should have a discussion about how much of this I should be taking on myself, seeing as this is not a plugin that I wrote. I could make modifications myself - ideally it would be possible to extend the plugin without modifying it, and I could work with the plugin author to ensure future compatibility and extensibility. Or we could fork. Or we could petition the plugin author to integrate some of these suggests (if he hasn't started already).

I just poked around on the Group Documents section of buddypress.org: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-group-documents/. In the roadmap file, the author mentions that he'd like to implement search and better filtering/sorting. But they're not too high up the list, and even for the higher stuff on the list we are warned that there is no set timeline since he develops this in his free time. So, we could consider commissioning him to do some of the things on the roadmap (which he says he's open to), or we can open these items as individual feature requests here on Redmine and I will get to them when I can.

- Category name changed from BuddyPress (misc) to Group Files
- Status changed from New to Deferred
- Target version deleted (
These are all good ideas, but I don't know that it's worth sinking time into our crummy fork of buddypress-group-documents.

buddypress-group-documents was abandoned several years ago. We continued to make changes to our version. Later, the plugin was adopted by some other people, but they made subsequent changes that are likely not compatible with some of the changes that we've made locally. The amount of time and effort that would be required to bring these two back into sync is likely not worthwhile.
