I'm guessing that this relates to changes made when we allowed new accounts under a @cuny.edu domain , but various CUNY addresses are not being allowed to register for new accounts. Please see screenshots

Hi Boone -- I'm giving a presentation to 400 new students at the GC at 11am, and I'll be featuring the Commons prominently. If there is any way you could knock this out by then, I'd appreciate it.

Some recent changes in the way that WP sanitizes certain multisite options caused values with asterisks (such as *.cuny.edu) to be stripped. See http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15706#comment:24

I've put in a workaround at https://github.com/castiron/cac/commit/fe3aa601b11d0b47ff5c9e986d988d40b508f8bc
