Description
The group formerly known as the Digital Media Studies Group is now known as the Digital Studies Group. I changed the name, but the group slug remains digital-media-studies-group
Would it screw things up to change that slug, even if we had to do so directly in the database? I suppose that older links would break, but that might be preferable to having the old name hanging around. Thoughts?

This should allow it http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-edit-group-slug/ and be relatively unobtrusive. I'll do some testing and try to get it in 1.1.

Thanks, Boone. Group admins have to take action to change the name, right? (ie., it doesn't automatically match group name to group slug)

Yes, name and slug are totally separate. Generally speaking, changing slugs is not a good idea because it breaks old permalinks, while this is not the case for names, so it's good to keep them separate.

Someone asked about this today at the meeting. Is this change up on the site already? If so, through what process can the group slug be changed?

It's fixed in the master branch and will be available when the site is updated to version 1.1. At that point, group admins will be able to change their group's slug on a newly created tab of the group admin section.
