Description
Antonia Levy just reported that Alyson Vogel was able to join the SPS Faculty Community group (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/sps-faculty-community-group-2003930391/) without being approved by any of the admins. I am an admin and I never even received an email notification about the request. Is it possible to see how she was able to join?

- Status changed from New to Assigned
- Assignee set to Boone Gorges
- Priority name changed from Normal to Urgent

I'm looking into it. So far I see that she joined yesterday, and that her membership is marked "invite_sent" but "inviter_id=0", so I'm not sure what to make of it.
In the meantime, do we have any more details about this? Have you asked Alyson how she did it?

BP allows this, but the feature appears to be disabled on our installation. Let me look into it. I'm going to retitle this ticket for this purpose.

I've ported the settings markup over from BuddyPress. Sarah, after the 1.6.7 release, you'll be able to set this on the group Admin > Settings tab.
