Description

A user reports:
I was just trying to post a new message to the forum for the CUNY CAT. The body of the message included a YouTube URL. *As soon as I added the URL, the preview panel expanded to the point where the submit button seemed to disappear.

(This is the message I was trying to post:

"At the last meeting of the CUNY CAT, there was interest in seeing a video overview of the OneSearch system that was launched last fall. I'm sharing here a video that the CUNY Office of Library Services made shortly after the launch that might be worth sharing with your colleagues and students:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxIOS9mpc

If there is anything not covered in this video that you'd like to see in a new video, please let me know."

-----------
Since that didn't work, I then tried the post by email option. After I submitted the post by email, I got an automated email back with this message:

Could not be posted because it appears that you do not have access to that forum.

This is the email address I used to try to post that message:

Let me know if this is a known issue. Thanks!

  • Category name set to Group Forums
  • Status changed from New to Assigned
  • Assignee set to Raymond Hoh
  • Target version set to 1.8.12

For the first issue, the window rendered by oEmbed is bigger than the preview area, so the whole thing gets extended beyond the visible container. We need some CSS that prevents the oEmbeds from getting too wide.

Not sure about the second issue - definitely seems unrelated.

Assigning to Ray as these are both his areas of expertise. In the meantime, the user should be able to work around the issue by not having the youtube link on its own line (thus disabling the oEmbed functionality). Something like "Link: https://youtube.com....." should be enough.

For the first bug, I've added a fix that changes the embed width on group forum pages and on any other BuddyPress profile page for our bp-nelo theme. See commit c1958cb.

The reason I did not opt for a CSS fix in the bbPress Live Preview plugin is I can't be certain what the width of the forum content is across different themes.

For the second reply-by-email bug, definitely unrelated, but I'm looking into it.

I'm marking this ticket as resolved since the Submit button disappearing issue is no longer happening on production.

As for RBE, I tested creating a new topic in a test group on production and it works. Marilyn, if you are still having trouble with either issues, please feel free to reopen or create a new issue.
