Description

Dan's just released two new bits of public stuff:

1. ScholarPress COinS 2.0, which is our improvement on RRCHNM's original plugin. See #5490 and https://wordpress.org/plugins/scholarpress-coins/screenshots/
2. BP Multiple Forum Post, a new plugin that replicates our cross-posting checkboxes. See #5688 and https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-multiple-forum-post/

Stephen, do you think that some sort of publicity would be worthwhile? A few possibilities:

- A "hey, we published some new tools" post on the news blog, maybe highlighting that this is Dan's first free-software work as a member of the team :)
- Separate posts announcing each plugin on the dev blog, maybe written by Dan
- Hero slide to accompany?

Dan is a watcher here - could I ask the two of you to coordinate whatever you think is appropriate? Thanks!

  • Assignee changed from Stephen Real to scott voth

I love this idea and think we should tie this in to our larger efforts to highlight our contributions to free and open software projects.

I think that Scott would be a good person to take the lead on the write-up. Scott, what do you think?

I will try to get this done this weekend and send a draft before publishing.

Hi Boone and Matt -
Can you take a look at the news post to see if is okay before I publish? https://news.commons.gc.cuny.edu/?p=3644&preview=true

Thanks so much, Scott! This looks great. Small edits:

-- please mention Dan's title (Assistant Developer) when you first mention his name
-- the alignment/positioning of the photo looks a bit strange. Is there anything you can do to improve/clarify? Maybe include thumbnail versions that can be embiggened when clicked?

Looking good, Scott!

I made the first change suggested by Matt, and changed that sentence to "built by", since Dan did all the work :)

In the "BP Multiple Forum Post", I'd suggest changing the first sentence to "This new plugin lets users create new bbPress forum topics across multiple BuddyPress groups at the same time". This helps to make the context for the plugins clearer.

Thanks for working on it!

I don't think I can see the post draft but I'm sure it's great! Thanks Scott for writing it and Boone and Matt as well.

Thanks everyone - I have made the suggested changes. Except for the image. Matt - are you still seeing weirdness in the screenshot on the right? If so, I will look into it.

Hi Dan - Great work! Let us also know about changes from you. Sorry we could not see the draft. I have attached screenshot.

Thanks, Scott. Yes, still seeing a bit of weirdness. Principally, it's hard to see which image goes with which plugin, perhaps because one is a long vertical that spans both and one appears below. Screenshot attached. Maybe you can create a squarish version of the long vertical image and perhaps link it, when clicked, to the larger rectangular image?

Ok- I will work on that tonight. Thanks.

Hi - I made some adjustments to make the plugins more distinct. What do you think? https://news.commons.gc.cuny.edu/?p=3644&preview=true

Thanks, Scott. I just added captions to the images. If you can add some CSS to create a border, I think that would be helpful, but otherwise just publish when ready and give the team a heads-up on the group forum so that Sarah can tweet and Jim can include in his round-up. thanks!
