A quick look at the file suggests that this is an inherent problem with EO, not with BPEO - it's using some WP functions that aren't cache-friendly, and it's using some cache-friendly functions in ways that aren't very efficient. But I thought I'd bring it to your attention, in case (a) there's anything here that suggests a BPEO improvement, or (b) there's a low-hanging PR we can send back up to EO. (Something like a call to _prime_post_caches()?)
