I'll try, but I'm not certain that this is doable for a bugfix release. The Email Users plugin is not multisite-aware, or at least was not the last time I looked at it, so I'll have to modify it in order to make it work. And that would mean that I have adopted the plugin for good, which I am not keen on doing without having a good reason. So another possibility is to find a plugin that does something similar but works for multisite. I'll do a bit of research.

Thanks for having a look Boone. Hope I didn't suggest the wrong plug-in--this is (should be) the same one that Macaulay uses on its eportfolio system, and it's been modified (I thought by you!) to work there, and so I thought that would mean it would work here. Sorry if that's not the case, if it's too much trouble I'm sure we could find another solution...

Hi Scott - Yes, you're probably correct that this is the plugin that Macaulay uses, and yes, you're correct that I've modified it to work with multisite installations in the past. However, two points. (1) The modifications were made in the WPMU days, and I'm nearly certain they need to be reworked. (2) I'm not keen on installing plugins that only work properly if I modify them, as it means that I can't update the plugin in the future (without reapplying the modification, which takes loads of time if there have been big changes between revisions). I put that stuff up on my blog to benefit others, but in running a big site like the Commons I have to be more conservative with my time :)

Right, make sense Boone. Thanks for the help, and let me know if any alternatives come up.

Bumping to the next feature release so that this can get the real attention that it needs. For one thing, we will probably have to put a throttle on the number of emails that can be sent (at the risk of turning the Commons into a spam farm), and we'll also need to have time for adequate testing.
