Description

A ZenDesk user writes:
Is it possible to use Anthologize with a local host install of WordPress
- I've tried to export a test project, but I just wind up at a blank
page. If you could direct me, much appreciated.

Sorry to say I don't know where to begin. Any and all direction is welcome. Thanks!

Hm. The answer to the question is yes, the plugin can be used on a localhost installation of WordPress.

That said, I'm unclear on the context of the question. Is the user asking this because they've tried using the version of the Commons, and they're hopeful that it'll work on a local installation? Or is the user asking because they've already tried on a local installation, and they're unsure that it's intended to be used in this fashion?

If the latter, I'm not sure we can provide technical support. If the former, it'd be great to get more details - ideally a Commons URL - so that I can investigate the "blank page".

She writes:
"Hi, Its a local install on a laptop. I tried to export a project, but nothing happened. A new page tried to load, but nothing appeared on it. my own local host address was in the navigation bar - using Opera browser, and was online at the time.
This is the URL I get when I try to take the the first step to export

http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php?page=anthologize_export_project&project_id=163

When I hit the export button offline, I go to the next set-up page.

I hope this is enough information, if not, let me know ."

Thanks, Marilyn.

I'd need PHP error logs to be able to perform further debugging.

The Commons bug tracker isn't really a great place for this sort of support ticket. We have Anthologize available for use on the Commons, where we ensure that all required libraries are present. And while I personally help to maintain the Anthologize project, I don't do so under the aegis of the Commons. I'd suggest urging the user to use the version of Anthologize on the Commons.

I had no idea that you were involved in Anthologize, how cool!

I suggested she use the commons version. She wrote "thanks - my interest was in having a an external link in a PDF, so not being able to export while online is still an issue. I'm working around this by using the EPUB format instead - but if there is a way to make live links possible in PDF still would love to hear."

To the best of my recollection, Anthologize should handle external links in PDF without a problem. This shouldn't be affected by whether one is using a localhost installation or one that's on a live website. Anthologize doesn't follow the links, it just recognizes them and renders them as such in the output document.

I'll close this ticket as invalid for the purposes of the Commons. Thanks for relaying, Marilyn!
