Description

I just tried to add an orchid ID to my profile and it did not seem to take (I do not see an ORCID icon in my social media links or a link anywhere)

First, I tried adding:

0000-0001-6173-7194

When nothing happened, I tried adding:

orcid.org/0000-0001-6173-7194

Please see attached screenshot, just above "Quick Link" at the bottom.

Ugh. Duh. Sorry.

I'm sorry for not chiming in on the original thread, but since we treat the ORCID ID like various social networking services, I would have expected it to appear as a social media icon with a link in the "Follow me online" section. If it wouldn't be too much work to do that, I think we should consider it.

  • Tracker changed from Bug to Feature
  • Subject changed from ORCID field did not seem to work to ORCID should be a social networking field
  • Status changed from Reporter Feedback to Assigned
  • Target version set to 1.11.9

Here is the vector image provided by ORCID. Does this suit everyone as an icon? I would like to avoid another rebuild :-D https://members.orcid.org/sites/default/files/vector_iD_icon.svg

Thanks, Boone. That works for me. I added Raffi and Lisa as watchers so that they can chime in.

Technically, there is no way to "follow" someone's ORCID, right? So, should it be in that section (on second thought?).

Matt, please make the call :)

I think we should treat it like other third-party networking services, so please group it as an icon with twitter, github, facebook, etc

Updated in https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/tree/1.11.x to be a social media icon. The icon is not precisely the same shape as our other fields, but it still looks pretty good and is going to be used by a small number of users, so I think it's probably OK as is.
