Bug #12448

Course metadata should update on site/group metadata update
Added by Laurie Hurson almost 5 years ago.
Updated over 4 years ago.
Description
IIRC, there is no way to update the course metadata (instructor, semester) once it has been added to the courses list.
The Instructor for "Sex and Gender in Urban Life" entered the wrong semester and needs the listing updated to read Spring 2020 so that students know it is the right course. Can this be updated?
The instructor was confused because when she changed the site metadata in the settings, it was not updated in the course listing. Would it be possible to make the metadata dynamically update when changed in the site (or group) dashboard?

I thought this already happened. But yes, I'll verify and if it doesn't work for some reason, we'll make it work.
If you need something changed manually in the meantime, let me know.

Thanks Boone.
Can we change the semester listing on the Site "Sex and Gender in Urban Life"
URL: https://sexgendergcc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
In the course listing it reads Fall 2019 but should read Spring 2020, screenshot attached.
Thanks again!

I've confirmed that updating a Site or Group metadata does not update the corresponding group.
In https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/2aa36b471b578f8d44c387945c4f098beee52a28, I made a change so that updating certain metadata (Campus, Cluster, Academic Term, Purpose) in the Site or Group corresponding to a Course will update the metadata for the Course as well.
It's worth noting that the three entities - Course, Site, and Group - are all still technically independent. If you have a Group+Site with purpose Teaching associated with BMCC, then later you update the Group so that it's associated with Baruch, then the Course will be associated with Baruch while the Site is still associated with BMCC. This kind of thing is an edge case that few will ever notice, and it'd require a rethink of how the metadata works together in order to fix it, so I think we can safely set aside the concern for now. But I wanted it noted for the record.
