Description

in searching the course directory for "biology," I came across this site -- https://hkharoub.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- which appears to be a portfolio rather than a course. It should probably be reclassified.

  • Status changed from Assigned to Reporter Feedback

The site is marked as having the primary purpose of 'Teaching'. https://hkharoub.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/options-general.php I assume it was marked as such by the site administrator.

Do we want to be in the business of changing this on behalf of users?

I'm going to close this one, but let me know if you want me to go back and make the change for the user.

Hmm. I don't love the idea of changing the user's settings, but it does appear that the "purpose" question may not be as clear as it should be? Ie, in this case, we have a student doing work for a class thinking that "teaching" is the best choice from the "purpose" options.

On yesterday's call we decided not to update the purpose question language based on this particular case, but to keep an eye out for similar sites misclassified as courses in the future in case it's a trend. We also don't want to change this site's settings without contacting the user, so we're going to do that (Matt, are you going to, or do you want help on that?) and see if that sheds any light on their confusion as well.

Thanks, Colin. I wrote to the user a few days ago, but haven't heard back as of yet
