Description

Via ZD, Laura Westengard writes

"I am administrator, but I am unable to edit the events created by other users [on https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/clags-board/]. This is an issue because we have a lot of turnover at CLAGS, and it is important to be able to keep the internal calendar accurate and up to date. At times this necessitates adjusting events created by other people. Is there a setting that I can adjust for this?"

I can replicate what she's saying here, but I don't know if it's ever been the case that events can be edited by someone else?

Also - note that they don't have a related site, but I'm suspecting that having events there might help. Please LMK.

Had to look at what we decided upon when we built Group Events integration.

Here's the relevant discussion: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/bp-event-organiser/issues/5#issuecomment-85193803.

Specifically:

My inclination is to say no: we should let [Event Organiser] handle 'edit_event' mapping https://github.com/stephenharris/Event-Organiser/blob/9cb3399ec28561e4a96c61d1cbd97edf538a13fd/includes/event-organiser-cpt.php#L330, which is to say that only super admins and the event author should be able to edit.

Boone et al., it's been awhile since we implemented the original spec. However this sounds like a valid use-case. Should group admins and moderators be able to edit and/or remove events created by other users?

  • Category name set to Events
  • Assignee set to Raymond Hoh
  • Target version set to 1.19.0

Ray, thanks for doing the research!!

I agree that the request seems reasonable. Group admins/mods can modify other content associated with the groups (bbPress forums, BuddyPress Docs), so it feels natural that they'd be able to modify group events too.

Ray, this feels like a not-too-difficult technical lift. Can we slate it for 1.19.0?

Ray, could you have a look to see whether this is doable for 1.19? It feels like it should be a pretty simple change if you know where to look.

  • Status changed from New to Testing Required

This is available for testing on cdev. (Commits - https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/bp-event-organiser/compare/c6751a2...37594b7)

Group administrators and moderators can now edit and delete events.

I also fixed an issue where the confirm prompt was not showing before attempting to delete an event.

I tested this and it all seems good to go.
