closedAdd Table Of Contents Block plug-in

Description
I know there's a TOC+ plug-in, and I use that one extensively. However, it's not great for adding a TOC on a particular page. Instead, it has complex configuration parameters that affect the entire site. Sometimes, I just want a TOC in a particular place. What do you think of this plug-in? https://wordpress.org/plugins/table-of-contents-block

Hi Raffi,
Have you tried the [toc]
shortcode with customized arguments? https://wordpress.org/plugins/table-of-contents-plus/#description-header (scroll to the Shortcodes section). You would have to use the Shortcode block when editing, but that should hopefully get you most of the way there.
If the TOC+ shortcode is missing some options and is not adequate enough, let us know.
I've added Scott as a watcher to see if he has any other ideas with regards to generating a TOC.

Hi Ray - I don't think we have any other table of contents plugins.

Correct. This is the only one available.

Hi Ray,
Yes, I've tried [toc]
, however, there is no argument for specifying the levels. Specifically, the level limit is set to 3 globally, but for a particular page, I want it set at 2. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out a way to do this with the levels (it works with other configuration variables, interestingly). What happens is that on the page with only two levels, even though I use the shortcode, no TOC appears. The plug-in is good at not rendering tables of contents (using [no_toc]
) but not so great at rendering them in special cases.
Is this something I should perhaps bring up with the developer?

Yes, that is indeed the case. There is no option for level limits for the shortcode.

I know we're late on this, but given the limitations of our existing TOC plugin, I don't see any harm in adding a standalone block. I've added table-of-contents-block and it will be available for use after the next maintenance release. https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/4a602825a3ddb9656f7e735ce4d25abed7762b43
