Description
Hi All,
Is it possible to recover a deleted user profile? They deleted their account by accident.
Username: vegprof
Name: Chy Sprauve
Thanks
Laurie

I've verified that the user has indeed deleted their account - it's not just hidden, it's fully removed from the system. This means that most of the content and activity generated by the account is likely gone as well.
The only way to restore the account and its data is by restoring a full site backup from just before account deletion, and extracting the data from that backup. This is a painstaking process, which would take me several hours of manual work. Furthermore, I'm not sure how I'd get a full-site backup at the moment, given that our primary contact in IT is no longer at the Graduate Center.
As such, if this is a case where the user had created some critical piece of content (say, a series of blog posts) for which no other backups exist, I could try to initiate the backup-restoration process. Otherwise, it's best if the user simply creates a new account (it appears they may have done so already - 'profsprauve') and manually recreates any missing profile information.

Thanks for looking into this Boone. What a mess. This user did have a significant and important series of blog posts on the TLC site Visible Pedagogy.
But let me talk to Luke about this + next steps, as I understand how much work it would be for you to recover.

Blog posts might be a special case - check to see whether those posts have actually been deleted, or whether they were merely reassigned or are in the trash. BP-related content, in contrast, is almost certainly fully deleted.

Thanks for this guidance Boone. I was able to locate the orphaned blog posts in the back end of the site and reassign them to persons new account. All good now!
