Description

Currently, when I'm using Chrome and trying to access anything with a http://cuny.is/ short links, I'm getting a "The site can't be reached cuny.is refused to connect."

I have my firewall turned off. My internet is connecting, and I'm not using any proxy servers.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Hi Lisa, thanks for this report. I'm added a few watchers here. Do you recall any of the specific links that threw the error? Are they still giving you trouble?

I haven't been able to reproduce the error myself, but I did notice this link I used to test was loading/redirecting a bit slowly:

http://cuny.is/cunydhi-group

I'm not seeing any general problems with cuny.is links in any browser. Lisa, perhaps you could open your browser's developer tools (usually F12) and find the Network tab. Then, try visiting a problematic link. Copy the contents of the failed request and share them here.

I haven't been able to reproduce the error myself, but I did notice this link I used to test was loading/redirecting a bit slowly

In this particular case, part of the slowness is due to a double redirect:
1. http://cuny.is/cunydhi-group is directing to https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/digital-humanities-initiative
2. https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/digital-humanities-initiative is redirecting to https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/cunydhi

The 'cunydhi' group used to have the slug 'digital-humanities-initiative', but the admin must have changed it. When this happens, BuddyPress keeps track of the old slug, so that requests for the old URL automatically redirect to the new one. If we are concerned about the slowness of the 'cunydhi' shortlink, someone should change it in the cuny.is admin panel to point to the new URL.

I don't know what to say. I tried it multiple times on Friday, and I couldn't get the shortlinks to work. I opened it up today... and voila, no problem. I have no idea what changed. I"m genuinely confused, but it seems to be resolved, so we can mark as closed.

My favorite problems are the ones that aren't :) Thanks for following up, Lisa!
