Bug #17414
openEmbed Any document Plugin
0%
Description
Hi All,
We have a faculty member trying the embed and display powerpoint files on the commons (not from a link).
In the past we have used embed any document plugin without issue. However it appears this plugin is no longer working on the Commons
https://wordpress.org/plugins/embed-any-document/
Screenshot of attempt from today
Is there a bug in the new version of the this plugin? Or some other issue we might be able to resolve?
Thanks!

It appears that the Google Drive
embed feature of the Embed Any Document
plugin is a Pro feature.
For a free alternative, use the Google Docs Shortcode
plugin. Some documentation is available here: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/google-docs-shortcode/wiki. Ensure that the Google Doc is shareable before attempting to embed. Here's a guide to get the shareable link: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/google-docs-shortcode/wiki/Sharing-a-Google-Drive-file-and-getting-the-link

Apologies, Laurie. I should have read the ticket more thoroughly! I thought the user was embedding via Google Drive.
Is the user attempting to embed a powerpoint file uploaded to the site's Media Library from a private site? If so, this will not work. The site (or URL) has to be public in order for the powerpoint file to be displayed properly.

Thanks Ray - I tested and it works when site is public.

Hi All,
Thanks for looking into this! Very helpful to know this only works if the site is public.
I identified a work around - if you save ppt as pdf you can display using the pdf embedder plugin on a private site.
