Feature #17797
closedWidgets in Pages for custom category lists

Description
Hi All,
I am building out an OER TLC assignment library on the Commons. I will need to make the taxonomies and folksonomies visible to users so the site and assignments can be easily searched and navigated, kind of like it is here (bottom of page): http://teachoer.org/
On the TeachOER site, I used "widgets on pages" plugin that allows a user to group widget and use shortcode to insert. I like how the widget displays on the front end not just as a lit but as buttons. (I Think this may be the theme?)

My question: can we add widgets in pages plugin for use on this Commons site: https://tlcassignments.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
AND/OR can you advise: is there a better way to do this now with the block editor? I can imagine making buttons with custom links to each category archive but I think this would be tedious. Right now, I see that the "category block only lists categories, and does not display them in a pleasing way.
There is no rush on this, I don't need to complete the prototype library site until April.

Hi Laurie,

I think the "Widgets on Pages" plugin might not be needed.
I've updated the "View Assignments by Discipline" section on the tlcassignments.commons.gc.cuny.edu
site to use two Tag Cloud
blocks with different configuration values. Both blocks have the Taxonomy
field set to "Categories". The first one uses the "Default" style with a fixed font size of 14pt. The second one uses the "Outline" style, which puts each category around a box. This gets you very close to the teachoer.org
site. Unfortunately, the font size and the box-padding cannot be configured for the latter, but we can do some simple things with CSS like add a background color if you like this style.
Let me know if the "Tag Cloud" block gets you pretty close to what you need.

This is due to the theme being used on the teachoer.org
site. We can do something very similar with CSS, just let me know the colors you'd like to use :)

Thanks Ray, this is great!
I am going to work with the site a bit more but will let you know if I have anymore questions about this.
