Bug #2127
closedUpload of final version of Prelude.12 Theme
Added by Kimon Keramidas about 12 years ago. Updated about 12 years ago.

Description
This is the final version of the Prelude.12 theme, including a number of bug fixes and enhancements. This should finalize any backend changes necessary for Prelude.12 site, all other changes will be made through WP Dashboard. As the festival is nearing it would be great if we could make it into the next version of the Commons, whenever that may be.

Boone,
Would you like me to take care of this?

- Assignee changed from Boone Gorges to Dominic Giglio
Yes please - and please have a glance over the git diff after replacing the files, just to make sure that nothing awful is sneaking through :) Thanks!

- Status changed from Assigned to Resolved
- % Done changed from 0 to 100
New theme files have been added and the changes pushed to 1.4.x.
I looked over the diff and it's mainly just changes to some image and link paths and style updates, nothing sneaking in with these updates. :-)

Thanks guys. These changes won't be noticeable until the next version update of the Commons is made live, correct? Just want to know when I can expect them to show up.

Kimon,
That is correct. We currently expect to release v1.4.5 on Wed 9/26.

Ok, good to know. If I got a version of the MESTC main site theme with any bug fixes to you guys by the 24th would that make it into 1.4.5 as well?

Hi Kimon -
If I got a version of the MESTC main site theme with any bug fixes to you guys by the 24th would that make it into 1.4.5 as well?
We've been having some internal discussions about our release cycle. We'll be making details available soon, but the brief takeaway is that we're moving to a release cycle of the 1st, 11th, and 21st of every month. Partners like you can have your content included in these release by submitting at least 3 days in advance of one of these deadlines.
Given what I've said here, the deadline for 1.4.5 is today, and for 1.4.6 is the 28th. I realize that this may pose a problem for the 1.4.5 release, as we've been sending some mixed messages in the last few weeks. Go ahead and prepare the next version of the MESTC theme and submit it when it's ready. I'm happy to bend the three-days-in-advance thing for 1.4.5, and if you miss the deadline of the 21st altogether, I would consider doing an interim release between then and the 1st, to accomodate the fact that we've been feeding you different dates.
Hope that works for you. Thanks for your patience, Kimon.

This clarification helps a lot, especially knowing about the three days and the set schedule and deadlines to aim for.. We were thinking about finalizing the MESTC main site theme by the 28th anyway so that fits in line pretty much with getting you a theme three days before a Oct. 1st release.
Does this mean that the Prelude theme will make it into a 21st release then? That one has really got caught in the midst of this more so than the main site and since the festival is Oct. 3-5 that is one that we are most antsy about (see my email from last night). If we could do an interim release of that that didn't have to wait until the 21st that would be ideal in fact since a public announcement went out yesterday. I ask this with the understanding that this would definitely be a one time thing. For all of us involved I want to make sure we stick to your release dates as well.
Thanks so much for this. You have been great during what has been an interesting transition for us, and I think for you guys as well. Let me know what you think about the Prelude site so I can let everyone back at the center know.

Hi Kimon,
Thanks for your patience and understanding as we have worked through this process. Though I'm glad we now have a more formalized procedure, I'm sorry you were caught in the middle as we worked it out.

Sorry, but we're unable to do that since the entire point of this new system was to avoid having to do interim releases, which interrupt dev team work. We now have a set release schedule, one that we think provides users with the possibility of regular updates on a reasonable schedule while also ensuring that the Dev team has time to work on bugfixes and features. Hope you understand and can help us make this new schedule work.

No problem Matt. The only reason I asked for that is that Boone had said Monday or Tuesday previously for the Prelude release and then said that due to to confusion he could do an interim release for the MESTC site changes. Just figured I would probe to see if he was comfortable doing that for Prelude since we kind of got stuck in the middle, but at this point a release on the 21st (only two days away after all) is fine and I totally understand the need for and benefits of this new schedule. It will certainly help us plan.
Thanks for all your help.

Great -- thanks, Kimon, and again, apologies that we've given you different dates throughout the process. We're hopeful that having some clarity moving forward will help us all.
