Description
We should perform nightly syncs to AWS EC2 as well. Then if the CUNY rings ever fails or whatever we'll be able to carry on more or less trouble-free.

Guys, what do you think? Should I move forward with scheduling this one or mark it rejected for now? I can do it but there will be an ongoing maintenance cost (~$100/month I'm estimating).
Sounds like a worthwhile investment to me and we have the funding. I'd like to try to get this on this year's budget, if possible. André, can you please check to see whether it is possible to pay Amazon for a year in advance through an annual fee? That would allow me to cover this on this year's budget rather than a month-to-month contract. We may have to contact Amazon support for clarification.

I know we can pay for "reserving" an instance for the year, and that this reduces the monthly costs by close to 50%. As for paying for the entire year, I pretty sure this will not be possible because their whole model is "pay as you go" so this would go against the grain in this sense.
I searched around their website and was not able to find any option to pay in advance. Matt, is this a must-have? Thanks.
not "must-have" but it would make it a lot easier. Is there any way you might contact tech support to see what is possible? Perhaps we can pre-pay a certain amount up front and then have monthly usage deducted from it?
If you could check on that, I would appreciate it.
Matt, if we pre-pay a certain amount at the beginning of the year, but then for some reason go over that pre-payment, then what would you envision happening?
then i would add more money to the account. just trying to get as much as possible on this year's budget.
Ok, I see your logic. I posed the question to support. Let's see what they say.

I'm not sure that we run this EC2 instance any longer, so I'm going to reject the ticket, with the note that a tertiary site (secondary is at Baruch) is worth considering at some point when we have the mental bandwidth.
