Description
Request from UserVoice
Allow notifications to be turned off, or maybe make this off by default, with a checkbox to email members.
My response:
Great suggestion, Shawn -- thanks. Though I think we might want to mimic our UI for group docs and instead keep notifications on by default but give people the option not to send a notification upon upload. We'll discuss this on our tracking system - http://redmine.gc.cuny.edu . If you want to be part of the discussion, please send me an email (mattgold at gmail dot com)
Shawn's response to my response:
Thanks, Matt! I just wanted to send along the suggestion, as I sometimes upload 3-5 docs at a time and don't want to inundate peoples' inboxes, as opposed to sending one summary announcement once I'm finished uploading them.
I think these are very reasonable concerns and I suggest we implement a feature that looks like the checkbox under BP Docs, which would allow file uploaders to prevent the system from creating an email notification.
- Assignee changed from Boone Gorges to Dominic Giglio
- Priority name changed from Normal to Low
- Severity set to Trivial
- Tracker changed from Bug to Feature
- Priority name changed from Low to Normal
- Severity changed from Trivial to Normal
Raising the priority and severity of this, as I'm in groups where this feature would be very useful and would improve the experience of the Commons by making notifications less annoying. This is particularly the case when one is uploading a file and then having to delete/re-add it multiple times for new revisions.
Hi Dom: We're going to move this issue to the next major release if you haven't thus far resolved it - any updates or should we go ahead and bump it? Thanks!
Hey Micki,
I haven't had a chance to work on this issue because it was marked as lower priority than others currently assigned to me. If you mean bump to 1.6 when you say "next major release" than I say go ahead and bump it.
I guess we could also put it into a point release (1.5.*) if time permits in the future? But that can always be discussed at a later date.
