Description
Hi All --
I noticed a spam registrant on the Commons today. It appears not to use a CUNY email address (at least at the moment) and it is associated with Tony P's blog. I've attached a screenshot. Please let me know whether you have any ideas about how this happened.
Files
There are a number of users with facebook_ user names: http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/network/users.php?s=facebook* Needs more investigation, but I'm guessing this is related to the Social plugin, which may be creating local users when someone leaves a comment using a social networking logic. If you see more users like this come through, please do not mark them as spam without talking to me first. They probably are not spam.
Dom - could you see what you could do about testing this hypothesis? Look at that listing of users, and the blogs they're associated with. Then, cross-reference with a list of blogs running the Social plugin. If there's a match, please see if you can easily identify how and where Social is doing this, and if there's a way to disable it. If not, feel free to touch base back here to see if I have any more brilliant ideas :)

Since this hasn't recurred in some time, I think we're OK to close this. If it comes up again, we'll dig further into the Social theory suggested above.
