Description

Hi Boone,

I've been busy with course prep and haven't had a chance to take care of the hero slides (will try to get them done tomorrow).

Is there any possibility you can replace the links on the current "under maintenance" hero slides?

The "overview of the update" link should go here:
http://news.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2010/08/24/cuny-academic-commons-version-1-0/

and the "what it means for groups" link should go here:
http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/brianfoote/activity/32959/

Feel free to add a link to your post, as well - http://dev.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2010/08/24/the-technical-side-of-commons-v1-0/

I know I should be doing this myself . . . and I know I need to get going with Git. Sorry to ask this of you, but we should really do it ASAP.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm going to have to issue a release for this. Are you sure these are the only changes you want made?

See cdev to see the requested change.

That's a tough question. I definitely have other changes (namely, the hero slides), but I won't have a chance to get to them until later tonight. Why don't we wait on the 1.01 release at least until tomorrow.

While I'm excited about the versioning system, I don't think it should get in the way of good sense (like fixing an outdated link smack in the middle of the home page...even if some of the photos there are stale).

Is there any precedence for an interstitial version release, like 1.0.1.5? Or is that ridiculous?

I agree that it shouldn't get in the way of good sense. But the system means that there's no such thing as "making a little adjustment". All changes on production happen through releases; no changes are made directly on production.

As for numbering, it's more or less arbitrary. Unless there's a good reason to prefer 1.0.0.5 to 1.0.1, we'll go with the latter.

Oh, and tomorrow's fine with me. Just let me know. (Side note: Those hero images should be managed with a plugin or a widget. Is there already a ticket for that?)

Okay, let's shoot for tomorrow, then. And thanks for the clarification . . . . somehow, I thought your reluctance (or what I perceived as your reluctance), came from using up the 1.0.1 release prematurely/frivolously. Good to know you're not hung up on the numbering system. I'm fully on board with not editing production!!!

I know I mentioned the hero space as plugin/widget in a Basecamp message, but I don't think that I ever created a ticket. Or, at the least, a quick search for "hero" came up with no mentions.
