Description

Hi,
I'm at the Murphy and we've created a new site on commons to replace our old site. The new site, http://newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ , needs to have the url: http://newlaborforum.cuny.edu/ .
We've been in conversation with Washington Hernandez, , and Clayton Kramer, , about this.

"The DNS change has been completed but the site is not resolving correctly on GC Commons servers. The GC site administrators need to add a redirect on their web servers to accept the http://newlaborforum.cuny.edu/ URL and send requests to http://newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu/. As of right now blank page is being displayed."

We'd like to announce the new site as soon as possible and appreciate your help in this matter.

Thanks
Charles

Hi Charles,

http://newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ should now resolve to http://newlaborforum.cuny.edu/.

Let us know if the site is working as expected.

I think I need to put in a request with GC IT for this, as well.

Apologies, Matt. You're right. I've done my part, GC IT needs to do the rest.

I should also note that there already seems to be an existing site for newlaborforum.cuny.edu.

Everything is going to the right place, however what we wanted to happen was to change newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu to newlaborforum.org, not just a redirect. How can we make this happen?

The redirect should work now.

I was waiting word from GC IT before I made the switch permanent.

The request was for newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu to map to newlaborforum.cuny.edu. This has been completed.

newlaborforum.org was not described in the initial request.

Matt, I believe another request to GC IT might be needed so newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu maps to newlaborforum.org.

Charles, just to be clear, do you still want newlaborforum.commons.gc.cuny.edu mapped to newlaborforum.cuny.edu as well?

Hi Charles,

Before we move forward with this new request, can you please confirm that you are want the site to resolve to newlaborforum.org, NOT http://newlaborforum.cuny.edu/, as you originally requested?

Hey all,
First, apologies because I'm sure I'm using incorrect language here and there.
Second, this is what we want:
when you enter newlaborforum.cuny.edu, you will not be redirected to the nlf commons site, but rather the domain will appear consistently as newlaborforum.cuny.edu. This is similar to how the murphyinstituteblog.org is actually a commons site, but this is not reflected in the public facing url.
We value the .cuny.edu domain name for public purposes and are committed to it.

AND

It's true we also have newlaborforum.org. This is the title that appears on our magazine. In the past, going there simply redirected you to newlaborforum.cuny.edu. We want that to continue! It is somewhat odd that we don't simply switch everything to newlaborforum.org, but we're not. It's just a redirect.

AND

Just to say it again to prevent misunderstanding, after this fix I want all of our URL's that we share to start with newlaborforum.cuny.edu/....

AND I just checked and it looks like this is all done. Now I feel silly.

Anyway, thanks all of you for taking good care of us!

Charles
