Bug #376
closedErrant Subscribe2 Global Posts Notification
0%
Description
I received an email notification from the Global Posts blog of a post that used the tag "anthropol-itics-ology." I hadn't done anything to subscribe to it, so I'm a bit mystified as to why I received it. I'm worried that others received it, as well.

This is a strange problem. The emails are definitely being sent by Subscribe2. But there are a few weird things going on:
1) Subscribe2 is not activated on the tags blog, which is the blog that sent the email to you
2) I'm not sure S2 got the idea that you were subscribed.
When I checked the database for S2 settings, I find a couple of things.
a) 124 are subscribed to the 'anthropology' tag on the tags blog (taxonomy id 106)
b) The same 124 are subscribed an item numbered 3372 on the source blog Appalachian Anthropology. But there is no post, page, or taxonomy term with the id 3372 on that blog.
Clearly something is wrong with S2, though it's not obvious to me what it is. Maybe the best option is to disable the plugin sitewide? Aside from these subscriptions, the plugin only stores data in one other place (having to do with the Digital Word Conference).

Wow -- that is very strange. Disabling Subscribe2 seems like a good idea.

Did you wind up disabling Subscribe2? I received another notification today . . . .will forward.

I've had other people report that Subcribe2 does not work correctly with SWT. I was planning on looking at that this week.

I have a plugin ready to test. As far as I can tell, it works, but my dev install doesn't have a mail server running & I can't verify that no mail goes out.

Ron - can you push it to the master branch, then shell into cdev and git pull so you can test on that server? Make sure that you test with new blogs/groups so that there aren't any existing users who get your test emails.

Andrea will do some testing this afternoon.

It worked as expected on a single blog. I'll update it later today and push it as a network plugin so it can have more widespread testing.

Very slick solution, Ron. Thanks very much.
