Has the whitespace issue actually been fixed?

The new featured widget allows us to set a character limit for the text that appears in the featured box, thus shortening the white space. It's the short-term fix we discussed (as opposed to the long-term redesign process). So: yes, pretty much.

Boone, do you have an ETA on this? Please feel free to get in touch by email if you want to discuss the timeframe, but from my perspective, it would be good to get this stuff up sooner rather than later.

I'm going to have a serious look at this tomorrow morning (11/10). If I'm able to merge the two home page changes into the 1.0-branch without any real problems, I'll try to shoot for a 1.0.4 launch tomorrow in the late morning or early afternoon. (Wide testing isn't really needed since these changes don't deal with user data or have any real functionality beyond presentation.)

Great. Thanks, Boone, and please let me know how it goes. I'm looking forward to the flexibility that these changes will provide.

FYI - just realized I can't do this in the morning. Will have a look tomorrow afternoon.

I don't know why it didn't dawn on me before, but Ron's plugin requires WP 3.0, which will not come until Commons 1.0. I can still release with the new Featured Content widget if you think it's important.

Darn. Okay. The featured content widget alone will make a big difference to the layout of our homepage. If you could load it onto the site, I would appreciate it.
