Bug #387
closedDisable activity replies for group announcements
0%
Description
Right now, replies to group announcements don't get emailed out to group members. I'd say they should, though I would prefer that people just posted to forums and avoided announcements entirely. Still, I'm in a group in which a bunch of people have replied to an announcement, and I had no idea because there was no email push.
What do you think?

With Commons 1.1, and our new group activity notification system, users will have the ability to receive email notifications of activity replies. This mostly meets what you're asking for. The only remaining question is whether they should be forced, in the same way that group announcements are.
I am against this. I'd prefer to turn off group activity (ie announcement) replies altogether.

That's fine with me (I wasn't expecting to be able to submit a reply to an announcement). I do think it's important that we discuss such changes with the Group for Group Admins, though, since it will affect their working spaces. I'll set up another ticket asking Brian to do that when 1.1 is released.

This not an optimal fix, but will have to do for now. This change in BuddyPress http://trac.buddypress.org/changeset/3318 will make it possible to do this without a custom template in BP 1.3. I'll open a separate ticket to revert this change at a later date.
