Description
I'd like to make the process of choosing themes easier for our bloggers. Is there a way that we could mark/tag some themes as "featured" and then offer bloggers the chance to choose from them instead of having to slog through the entire repository?
I'd like to see a better interface for theme browsing with tags and such, but a cursory glance at the core code suggests that it would mean rebuilding the entire theme browser, as there are no hooks or filters in the right places. Ron and Andrea, do you know of anyone who has done this? Am I totally wrong here?
There might be a more lo-fi solution. What if we just hooked some messages to admin_notices that would suggest some cool themes? They'd have to be manually maintained by the admin, and they'd be text only (with links I suppose), but it'd be easy to implement.
There is a new theme browser coming in WP 3.1. I haven't played with it much yet but I believe it's similar to the one on wordpress.com.
Awesome! I haven't tested WP trunk lately because it breaks BP :-D
I haven't looked at it in a while either. I'm waiting for the beta to start.
- Target version set to Future release
WP's core infrastructure for dealing with themes in the Dashboard has changed a lot in recent versions. Dom, can I ask you to spend a bit of time thinking about how a 'featured theme' system might look and work?
