This should be fixed now.

Ray, it dawns on me that this recurring problem may be due to bbPress. Scott's account had been modified so that his Forum Role and his Site Role were both "Participant". Would you mind taking a few moments to see whether you can reproduce something like the following: a user has the Editor role on the main site; the user creates a bbPress topic or reply (perhaps in a public group, where bbPress/BP would have to make inferences about the user role in order to allow posting); the user's Editor role is changed to Participant. Just a hunch.

Ray, would you mind taking a look at the above when you get a few minutes?

I tried duplicating this locally for a user with the Site Roles of "Editor" and "Participant" and then posted a bbPress forum reply. The user was still able to access the "Gallery Posts" menu in the WP admin area.

I read #1745 and #234 for historical context and it appears that Scott loses access to the WP admin area entirely. Based on that report and when the initial report was filed, it doesn't seem to be a bbPress v2 issue.

My only uneducated guess is that the User Role Editor plugin might have something to do with the problem. Do we use that plugin for anything at the moment?

Scott, Ray,

Just checking on this intermittent issue--is this still a problem? Should we keep it open?

Thanks,
Steve

I will leave it up to Scott to decide if he wants to close this.

Based on the number of issues opened, this bug has popped up every once in awhile over the past six years, but unfortunately we haven't determined what is causing this.
