Domain Mapping
Description
Hi Commons Team!
I recently purchased a domain name, marilynnjohnson.com, on gandi.net and I was hoping to be able to map my johnson.commons.gc.cuny.edu site to that address. Two years ago I did something similar with the swipanalytic.org/swipanalytic.commons.gc.cuny.edu site. The ticket from that request is here: https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/2963
Based on the feedback I got last time it looks like the steps are:
1) You request IT to configure things on their end
2) I configure things on the gandi.net side
3) You finalize things on the Commons end
Assuming this is all still the same procedure, can you please make the necessary request to IT? If things have changed please let me know what the next step will be instead.
Thanks very much!

- Category name set to Domain Mapping
- Status changed from New to In Progress
- Assignee set to Boone Gorges
- Target version set to Not tracked
Thanks for the details, Marilynn! I've initiated the process with IT and will update you when the domain is available.
Hi Boone, Thanks for setting this up on the Commons end and sending the DNS steps. I finally got around to trying to set up the domain mapping on gandi.net. I had a go at it but I am not sure if it was successful. Can you please let me know if it looks like it worked from your end? If not I'll keep trying to figure out what I need to change on the gandi.net site. Thanks!
- Status changed from In Progress to Reporter Feedback
Hi Marilynn - Public DNS records are suggesting that your A records are still pointing toward 217.70.184.38, and that there's no CNAME registered with the domain.
I assume you followed this guide from Gandi? http://wiki.gandi.net/en/dns/zone/cname-record
- Status changed from Reporter Feedback to Abandoned
Hi Marilynn - It looks like the domain is still parked at gandi.net. If you decide you'd like to move forward with mapping the domain to your Commons site, please feel free to re-open this ticket after having a look at the DNS help article I linked above. Thanks!
