Or to be more exact, blog privacy settings from group creation are properly saved, but are then immediately overwritten by the New Blog Defaults plugin (which hooks to wpmu_new_blog) to 1. The NBD plugin is not written in such a way that I can reach in there and stop it from acting. So I may have to write some sort of hack job in the bp-groupblog plugin that overwrites what NBD overwrites. This is an extremely annoying problem that has already taken way too much time to diagnose, and now is going to have a hack solution. Just venting my frustrations :)
