I don't mind rolling it into a minor release, but that means less fanfare surrounding the 1.3 release. So we could hold off if it were better from the Community Team's point of view. Matt?

Hmmm. I appreciate your desire to release this new feature to great fanfare, but letting our version numbering system delay the delivery of a useful feature seems wrong-headed.
I'd say we should probably release this in a bugfix release, but another possibility is to move up the timeline of the 1.3 release. Looking at the roadmap, do you think that's a possibility?
All in all, I'd suggest releasing sooner rather than later.
