Description

The WP UI plugin no longer has a documentation page (http://kav.in/wp-ui-for-wordpress). Should it be removed from the list of plugins? Thanks!

Hm, it looks like the plugin has been abandoned by the author: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-ui/

We can't outright remove it because it's in use by sites on the Commons, but we could certainly hide it so that it can no longer be activated on sites where it's not yet in use. All things being equal, I prefer to have fewer plugins available to users, especially plugins that are not actively seeing updates. On the other hand, I don't want to take useful functionality away from our users, especially if the plugin still works fine (which I haven't tested). Matt or Luke, do you have thoughts about policy here?

For reference: originally installed in #2107.

I think we should immediately disable it for new users.

If it still works and isn't dangerous, I think we can leave it but should probably check in on it at least once a year to ensure it is still okay. And I would say that if we can identify an alternative, we should let people using it know and urge them to migrate, saying that we may have to deactivate it in the future as it becomes further out of date.

Disabling sounds good to me. https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/6cda00234cd2697b65f07c083db3127bcc85197c

A good idea, but I'm unsure how to turn this into an action plan. I don't think we have the resources to do a full functionality review, and we definitely don't have the resources for a full security review.

A replacement would be a good idea, but perhaps it's only something we want to pursue if there's actually demand - just to err on the side of not installing more plugins.

Since we're now hiding the plugin, I'm going to count this ticket as resolved. If users demonstrate a need for this functionality in the future, let's consider alternatives at that point.
