Description
User Feisal Mohamed asks:
"The next step for us is to add PayPal to the site, if possible. Does the Commons have its own plugins for that, or should a WordPress plugin work? Are we allowed to set up ecommerce on the Commons platform?"
I am checking policy on the ecommerce issue. Boone, can you advise from a technical perspective? I think there are a lot of ways include PayPal, including a link; a link + image; an embed code for a button (which I assume the WP page editor would strip); or a plugin
I'd need more detail on what's being requested here. Depending on the kind of data being stored, we may need to be PCI compliant, which is very complex and probably out of scope for the Commons.
Adding a PayPal button or link is easy and can already be done. However, by itself it probably doesn't allow for integration into ecommerce plugins, which need to be able to engage in two-way conversation with PayPal and other processors.
I think we should get more details on the nature of this request, and then assess it alongside the overall policies for Commons use. This'll give us a sense of (a) whether such a use is appropriate in this case, and (b) how we can extend our thinking to cover more general rules for appropriate/inappropriate use of financial integrations on the site.
Hi All -- I'm following up with Legal and with Feisal on this. Marilyn, if it's okay with you, I'd prefer if you were the primary interface for members so that Boone can focus on development.
Yes, that's no problem. I just thought it might be speedier in this one case. But it sounds like this may be complicated.
