Description

Abigail Torres, from Hunter's Center from Online Learning, noticed that the "Voicethread Auto Embed" plugin is no longer working. It looks like it hasn't been updated in 7 years.

Looks like we should get rid of it on the Commons.

Abigail says Hunter uses Voicethread a lot and would like a way to embed its content into the Commons. Is there an alternative way?

The plugin mentioned above is indeed too old.

This request is similar to #11038. We would need to write a custom plugin to support Voicethread embeds as there doesn't seem to be an existing plugin available.

I have added Voicethread support as an embed handler. (Reference - https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/9c18afdffb443a6e6f3b4fd53ff408f589a3c5de)

This means when using the Classic Editor, you can paste a Voicethread URL or Voicethread Share URL on its own line:

And this will embed. However, in my testing, I couldn't get the embed to display in my browser. I used the exact embed code format from Voicethread. Perhaps, it's just a problem on my end while testing locally.

Please report if this works for you once this change is deployed next Tuesday afternoon.

For Gutenberg, embed handler support is currently not implemented. Let's keep an eye on the following WordPress ticket, which will address the problem for WP 5.2:
