Description
Since the reply-by-email plugin is nearing completion, it's time for us to think about the effect it will have on site visits. In particular, I'm worried about the impact that what I presume will be fewer user site visits will have on our home page, which currently shows users who have recently logged into the Commons website. We don't want it to look like no one is using the Commons if, in fact, people are using it actively.
Is there any way to take RBE into account in that widgetized space -- to show not only users who have logged in recently, but also those who have replied by email? We'd then have to think about whether to include only activity from public groups or also from private/hidden groups. Eager to hear thoughts on this.
- Severity changed from Critical to High impact
- Assignee changed from Boone Gorges to Raymond Hoh
BuddyPress updates user last_activity no matter whether you're visiting public or private content. Probably makes sense to do the same.
Ray, it's up to you whether RBE itself does this, but please hook in somewhere to ensure that member (and group) last_activity are bumped on posting.
Good call, guys.
I've opted to take Boone's advice and have added a commit that will update the related 'last_activity' meta for a user or group when a RBE item is posted.
This will tell BuddyPress that a RBE user is "active" even when posting via email and should take care of the "recently active" issue Matt stated above.
Great -- thank you, Ray! Boone, can you close when ready?
Looks great. Thanks, Ray. Can you mark this ticket when you've merged the change into the CAC repo?
- Status changed from Assigned to Resolved
Haven't tested yet, but many thanks, Ray!
