closedAdd Rescind Invite Functionality
0%
Description
A member recently invited the wrong person to their group, but couldn't remove the invite once it was sent. It seems that members have the ability to remove the invite after the person is selected, but not after the invite is sent to the user. Can we add rescind invite functionality so members don't have to rely on the development team to manually remove invites?

The problem with this suggestion is that the email notification would already have been sent. If we were to allow rescinding, it'd mean that (ex-)invitees would click on the link in the email, and find that, in fact, there were no invitations waiting for them.
It may be possible to create a new status "rescinded", so that instead of seeing nothing, the ex-invitees would see a message saying "This invitation has been removed". That'd help with confusion. But it'd also take a significant amount of development, as the invitation functionality is deeply baked into BP.

Complications and timeline noted, but I do think that this is worth developing. A wrong click could lead to a complicated circumstance and it would be nice for users to have a way of correcting the situation themselves.

This will not get done by 1.6 so we're moving to 1.7.
Sarah, I'm assigning this to you to answer a question. Since this ticket was created a year ago have you had any other people report a similar issue or make a related request?
We will address this but are trying to get a feel for how common the problem is.

We're discussing this in our meeting today. There have not been any other issues reported, but the team (and I) think that this would be a good feature to develop. Whether we work it into 1.7 or not is something we can decide as we move forward with the release.

A related question: I sent invites to people, but they haven't accepted the invites. I would like to send them a reminder of some kind, but that's impossible because we don't have a feature that would allow people to send reminders, so that only way to do it would be to rescind an invite and re-invite, which we also can't do. Is that right? As a stopgap, I am using email to nudge, but sometimes people say they didn't get the original invite, etc, which makes nudging or rescinding desirable.

If adding in the rescind functionality is too difficult, maybe we could just add in an extra step for sending invitations. So that after the user clicks 'Send Invites' a pop-up shows up to confirm the people being invited. Requiring users to look over the list of invitees and click a second time might prevent any mistaken invitations.

This is an interesting idea. If others like it, let's see what we can do for 2.0.

The onboarding overhaul we're in the process of designing contains such a review step. Let's move this ticket to that category to make sure it's addressed in 1.12.

The new onboarding system doesn't have a tool for rescinding an invite that has already been sent - the conceptual problems that I described above are still an issue here - but it does have a review step. So I think we can safely close this ticket out.
