Deactivate Jetpack on template sites?

Description
We noticed in the process of troubleshooting plugin activate problems on #23361 that Jetpack was active on several of the sites.
- One of them was the Academic Portfolio Template https://academic-portfolio-template.commons.gc.cuny.edu. It looks like it wasn't actively in use there, so Ray deactivated it
- On the Conference template site https://conftemplate.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ Jetpack is also active, and it looks like it powers the Twitter feed. But is this still relevant? Not sure whether Twitter/X is still used in this way for conferences.
All things being equal, it would be nice to get rid of Jetpack on these sites. Jetpack is a bear of a plugin that, from the dev team's point of view, introduces a lot of unnecessary overhead and difficult-to-understand tools. If we need some sort of feed/widget functionality on the Conference template, perhaps there is a more targeted way to do it. In any case, it's fine for users to activate Jetpack if there's some specific aspect of it that they want, but we would like to deactivate it by default.
Laurie, this is very much a non-urgent issue, so please feel free to have a think at your convenience.
Just to add to this, on the Site Creation page, for the Conference Template, the following is listed:
The template also comes with several plugins activated to support hosting a conference website on the Commons. Gravity forms, Google Doc Shortcode Embed, and Eventbrite plugins can help streamline registration. Jetpack offers a suite of tools, including site analytics, Twitter integration, and a “subscribe” feature which allows attendees to sign up to receive updates from the site.
So it looks like we're recommending Jetpack here not only for Twitter integration, but also for their site analytics and subscribe by email features. If we do away with Jetpack here, we would need to find replacements for these two features as well.
Oh, good call. The "subscribe" and "analytics" features are actually kinda hard to do outside of Jetpack. Few enough sites are created on the Commons with the Conference template that's it's probably not worth the effort to find alternatives. Laurie, maybe you can just confirm that the plugin in fact is not needed on the Academic Porfolio template.
Hi All,
I think it would be fine to deactivate Jetpack on both template sites (academic and conference).
I can change documentation for the conference template that alerts people to Jetpack and they can activate if they need these features (but by default jetpack would not be active on the template).
If this sounds good to you all I can deactivate.
Thanks!
Sounds good to me. Thanks, Laurie!
