Description
I noticed that you are able to access two "About" pages on the Commons. The first is the About link from the main menu (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/about/), then there is an About the Commons page in the drop-down menu (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/about/about-the-commons/). They have the same content, but the first one is missing the social media icons. I found the ticket for the original update to the About page (#1560). This doesn't seem like a high priority to add the icons to this page as well, but it would be nice to keep it consistent if we have to maintain both pages. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if this is why we have 50 more FB "likes" than we did a half a year ago.

Why do we have two pages? Can we eliminate one in favor of the other?
We have two pages because at a certain point, I thought it was confusing that when you mouse over "About," it brings up a submenu of pages, and I thought that "About the Commons" should be listed there even though an about page would be available by clicking "About." I'm fine with deleting the submenu page (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/about/about-the-commons/) if you all think that makes the most sense, or we can remove the link from the main "About" item, which would be even better. Looping Chris into the conversation.
My vote would be to keep both links for now but have them both direct to the same page instead of two different pages.
The text on the About the Commons Page should be used (http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/about/about-the-commons/) so if we decided the single page should be http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/about then that should be updated.
The reason to keep the two links for now is that there is a different interaction for this right now on touch and mouse interfaces. If you click About on a desktop then it goes directly to the page. If you click it on a mobile device it will show the hover state and you would have to click About again to follow the link (at least on iOS haven't tested on others), so mobile users may be more inclined to click About and then About The Commons and not know they could click About again.
I may add another ticket about updating the text on the page. The mission statement alone feels a bit dry and doesn't really directly answer the question "what is it?" Clicking through to the Wikipedia page also seems roundabout to answer that question.
Thanks, Chris. I agree with your line of thinking above -- thanks for testing on a mobile device -- great point.
- Status changed from Assigned to Resolved
OK, I've made the change to our navigation menu. Marking resolved. Let's take up Chris's other points in the tickets he's subsequently opened.
