Description
Hi all,
Now that users can no longer edit their college and title fields on their Commons profile, what should be done with them? Should they be removed, hidden, etc?
I ask because a member recently reported a spelling error in their title and they no have no way of updating it. Boone suggested that I create this ticket for the team to discuss the future of these fields so I'm adding the members of the Commons team as watchers to this ticket.
Best,
Sarah
Thanks for starting this Sarah. Part of the problem before the 1.5.2 update is that there was nothing telling people to use the Positions widget instead. Now that it's there, hopefully that will be clearer.
There is still the question of how long to keep showing the College and Title fields as we move forward. I haven't thought about it much but my first inclination is to say that at some point we can stop showing the fields and the message if the user has Positions and then think about whether we might at some point remove them entirely for everyone.
- Assignee set to Chris Stein
- Target version set to 1.6
I suggest that, when viewing the Commons Profile of a member who has Positions filled in, do not display College and Title (unless it's your own profile).
- Category name set to Commons Profile
- Category name changed from Commons Profile to Public Portfolio
- Status changed from New to Assigned
- Assignee changed from Chris Stein to Boone Gorges
Agree with Boone's suggestion. I would go a bit farther and suggest that:
- Don't show fields ever when viewing other's profiles
- If the user has Positions filled then don't show the fields or the message to the user either
- Only If the user both doesn't have Positions and has something in College and Title, then you can show message and fields
I'm pretty sure that new users don't ever see those fields so it's not a problem for them. Correct me if I'm wrong.
moving to Boone for implementation
- Status changed from Assigned to Testing Required
- Assignee changed from Boone Gorges to Chris Stein
OK, looks good to me. For some reason I can't change status to resolved.
- Status changed from Testing Required to Resolved
