Post erroneously ascribed to wrong author in activity feed
Added by Matt Gold over 9 years ago.

BuddyPress (misc)
Description
A new post was published on the Futures Initiative blog, and the activity item associated with it ascribed post authorship to me (screenshot attached)
It looks like an earlier version of the post was posted and then deleted, which may or may not be related. (screenshot attached)
I seem to remember an earlier, similar case where this happened before on the Commons.
Again, a screenshot of the erroneous notification is attached, and the post itself is here - http://futures.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2015/02/26/what-we-did-feb-24-fourth-class-assessment-part-2/

Ray, could you look at this? You are more recently familiar with the joy that is the blog activity sync than I am.
FYI, from Katina Rogers:
"Thanks, Matt. A little background: We’ve been cross-posting a lot of content, so one of our fellows researched a way to implement an RSS feed that would automatically re-publish anything from futures.gc.cuny.edu to our Commons site. After seeing that the post was attributed to you, she found a way to manually override authorship on future posts. Please do share any solutions that the Commons team finds, too. Sorry about this!"
Hi Ray,
Sorry -- I meant to include two screenshots -- one of a post that was deleted, and one of the screenshot that erroneously attributed a post to me (please see that one attached here). They came in at almost the same time, which is why I thought they might be related.
- Target version set to 1.7.16
Moving this into a milestone to ensure it doesn't get forgotten about. Ray, have you had a chance to look at the potential Co-Authors Plus interference?
Apologies for forgetting about this.
I tested Co-Authors Plus and it works when I change the post author initially to someone else. (Note: I did not try adding multiple authors to the post as that is another feature altogether.)
Next, I tested posting a regular post without Co-Authors Plus enabled and edited the post to change the post author. BuddyPress did not change the author for the existing activity item. More research uncovered that BP 2.2 broke how BP Groupblog saves post edits into the activity stream.
I've added a PR to fix activity edits for BP Groupblog as well as changing the post author here. I haven't added the changes to the CAC repo yet.
About Co-Authors Plus, do we want to do something to support multiple authors? Create a new activity stream item for each author?

I'd say this is not worth the effort for our purposes. Though this suggestion, and others on this tracker and elsewhere (#3178), make me wonder whether BP's activity table should have an 'alias_of' column or something like that, which we could use instead of 'hide_sitewide' for hiding near-dupes. Hmmmmm....
- Status changed from Assigned to Resolved
I've updated BP Groupblog to 1.8.11, which includes the fixes for this ticket in commit 093ce94.
About the Co-Authors Plus plugin, I've created a new ticket for this - #3939.
