Description
The drop down menu option indicates the user will be editing ‘My Profile’ but it leads to a form that enables the user to edit information that appears in both the ‘Public Portfolio’ and the ‘Profile’ within the ‘Commons Profile’. Labelling across these pages is inconsistent which could lead to the user being confused about which page he/she is editing.
Remove ‘Profile’ section of ‘Commons Profile’ and merge all of that information into the ‘Public Portfolio’.

Note that, to the best of my knowledge, all the fields on Commons Profile > Profile already appear somewhere on the Public Portfolio, either in the header or the widgets. I think this means we can simply remove Commons Profile > Profile tab.
Do we need to make any changes to the labeling of the drop down menu to support this?
I'm leaving this assigned to me, because there will be some weirdness in removing access to the Profile tab, due to cac-advanced-profiles and the fact that it's our default component.

I don't think this is true. Where does Commons-specific information, like friends, groups, and blogs appear on the public portfolio?
If I understand you (and the system) correctly, the first link above shows the portfolio page open on the "Public Portfolio" tab, and the second shows the same page open on the "Commons Profile" tab. I understand you to be suggesting we remove the "Commons Profile" tab, leaving only the "Public Portfolio." Is that right?
If so, I am confused, as not all of the info on the Commons Profile tab appears on the Public Portfolio tab.
If I'm misunderstanding you, sorry!
Yes, you are misunderstanding.
At http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/members/boonebgorges/?commons-profile=1, there is a nav menu running down the left part of the page. It contains items like Groups, Friends, etc. I am suggesting that we remove the Profile subnav.
This means that when you click "Commons Profile", you would need to be directed to some other page that shows this nav - maybe Activity.
Okay, thanks -- I think I understand you now.
Removing that makes sense to me, though not all of the info appears elsewhere: Role and Academic Interests primarily, I think.
Right. Role is a legacy field, superceded by Positions. Academic Interests was migrated over to the new system for users who had it filled in. So nothing should be lost.
Okay. Isn't it true, though, that neither position nor academic interests shows up on the public portfolio unless the user adds those fields?
I guess Role is not really fully superceded. We still use it for the filters on the Members directory. I personally don't think it's worth showing on the profile either way, but if so, it should probably be moved to the Public Portfolio.
For new users, Positions and Academic Interests only show up if they've been manually added. But for legacy users - those whose accounts predate our new profiles - these fields ought to have been populated automatically from the Title/College and Academic Interests fields on the old profiles.
Okay. I'm okay with getting rid of the profile tab as long as this information is still available and filterable from the members page.
