TinyMCE not showing default buttons

Description
I've noticed this for a while, but have never brought it up. It seems certain options missing from the Common's TinyMCE (Text alignment, proofread, clear formatting, keyboard shortcuts, toolbar toggle...)... am I missing something? i don't see an obvious plugin conflict.

In #1666, we customized the display of these buttons. We should probably loop in Chris and Matt before revisiting.
(For the record, my preference would be to go with WP's defaults, if only to make the experience match what WP users might be used to. But I don't care very much.)

Five years is a long time; I don't quite remember what motivated that discussion, but I'm fine with revisiting this. It would definitely be good to have Chris's input here, though.
TinyMCE has evolved over the past five years, and my feeling is that aligning our editor with WP norms will maximize transferability of the experience for our users. I've noticed this particularly when I realize I don't have access to text alignment buttons. but my guess would that our users would make use of proofread and shortcuts as well...
@Chris, thoughts?
If I remember correctly the change was motivated by a desire to improve the order of the buttons making the most used appear before you click the show all toggle and make it a bit more like Word. In the intervening years I think the WP defaults have changed to be more in line with what we were going for and our users are generally more familiar and comfortable with WP.
A long way of saying I'm OK with going back to the defaults. In the unlikely event of an outcry, we can revisit.
