Description

Hi All,

Starting a ticket to collect this work in one place.

I figured we could begin collecting sites/groups to feature on the new home page in this spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZyRLW_ZKlSMZxaUPfdrNJ-7QlT79GVXSXgz1x6ea2og/edit?usp=sharing

If another method or place for collection would be better, that works for me.

thanks,
Laurie

  • Target version deleted (1.19.0)
  • Parent task set to #14180

This list is looking good to me. I think we have plenty here to get started, but I'll keep it handy for further additions. I'm making #14180 the parent task for this, because once we get the actual tool built in that ticket to feature different groups and sites, then we can start populating with what's in this list.

This list does have a couple of useful columns in Type and Campus that we haven't worked into the design, which for now just shows a title and description. In the parent ticket I just posted a note wondering if that description might need to be editable by our team, in which case we could potentially incorporate some of that information. If not, it's at least nice to be able to sort on these columns and keep things diverse/fresh.

A technical note. We will probably want to put the cac-home-curation plugin onto the production site during a maintenance release a week or two before the 1.19 release. This way, members of the team - Laurie, Scott, Colin, whoever else - can take the time to enter the first set of Featured items that we plan to launch with. I've opened #14982 to track this.

The curation plugin has been added to the site. Colin, do you and your team want to take the lead on entering items in? I've entered a few myself just to make sure it works. Just start typing the name of the site/group, wait a moment (there's no spinner), then select from the list. https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=cac-home-curation, or Dashboard > Settings > Home Curation.

I would be happy to help with this curation but it looks like I don't have access to this page.

Laurie, please try again. I've made you an Editor on both cdev and the production site.

There's a longstanding bug that causes Editors to be downgraded by bbPress from time to time, so let me know if you lose access in the future.

Thanks Boone. I have access now but I'll let you know if I lose access in the future.

I can see Dashboard>Settings>Home curation now and I can start adding sites and groups there.

Hi Boone, I don't seem to have access to this right now myself on production, if you could check (user name colinmcd).

I think it's the same for colinmcd on CDEV, if you could grant me access there too so I can test a bit.

colinmcd is now an Editor on cdev and the production site.

Thanks Boone, this is all working fine for me in both places. Laurie, let's touch base on the dev call tomorrow about the latest sites/groups for populating the production site before launch.

Hi Colin,

Sorry I missed the dev call yesterday. I can take a look at the doc and highlight a few groups/sites I think we can use to populate the production site. Once we have those sites decided, I can also help enter them in.

Thanks, Laurie. Want to let me know when you're done highlighting your top ones? We could also discuss in the community call on Friday.

Hi Colin,

I have updated the list of featured sites, groups, courses in the google doc.

The sites and groups that I think would make sense are highlighted and the courses are just listed since I added those suggestions after our last convo.

Let me know what you think, and if you want any help populating them into the production site.

Just noting here that I've added Laurie's suggested highlights from this list for groups and courses to the curation area on the production site, so we should be good to go for launch.

I came across a couple of minor issues. For some reason no descriptions came through on anything that I added -- maybe that just means default text is going to be pulled in, and the earlier feature we thought we came across where that would be editable isn't going to be there? It's funny though, because the two groups that were added here previously showed up with editable descriptions.

Also for some reason I tried to import Freedom Dreaming at this URL and it was coming in with no title (as well as no description), so I left it off for now. https://freedomdreaming.commons.gc.cuny.edu/freedom-dreams/

I also updated the courses slideshow using the first half or so of Laurie's picks from that tab, figured we could save the others for a semesterly-ish refresh cycle.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for populating the featured group/sites and apologies i am late to this, I was away until yesterday.

I think freedom dreams site is possibly not working because the link i used was to a page other than the home page. Perhaps in the future we can try linking to the home page:

Colin, is there anything I can do to help debug this? I'm not sure where I should be looking.

In order to close out the milestone, I'm going to mark this ticket resolved. If there's a technical issue that needs addressing with the descriptions, let's handle in a new ticket against a future milestone.
