Description

From #15646:

3. Outdated Language: When a search comes up empty, one sees the message "Oh, bother! No search results were found here." "Oh, bother" is a bit anachronistic, and I'd like to see us move towards more modernized language.

Please recommend some update language, and we can make the change.

what do you think of some of the guidance here? https://www.prefixbox.com/blog/no-results-found-pages/

I like the idea of saying something like:

Sorry, we could not find any results for "[search term]."

Search Tips:
  • Check your search for typos
  • Use more generic search terms
  • Ensure you are searching in the correct group forum

The language and tips looks good to me. Maybe the first line could be expanded to this:

Sorry, we could not find any results for "[search term]" in [forum just searched].

If it isn't too hard to include the forum in question. That way it's more clear what you just did, if you need to try a different forum or something.

Just bumping this so it gets added to the forum bundle when released, thanks!

I've implemented this in https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/af9da76b1fe1d7fd38538a11bcdcbdc5370a3995.

Screenshot:

This is available for testing on cdev.

I've also added a Search results for "X" header as well as the search form to the search results page in https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cac/commit/c1e7cfff2eede4571d3fb50663eac79c570cc17d. This should make things even better for usability when there are no search results.

Regarding what Colin mentioned here:

Sorry, we could not find any results for "[search term]" in [forum just searched].

If it isn't too hard to include the forum in question. That way it's more clear what you just did, if you need to try a > different forum or something.

I feel that since you're already in the group in question when you are performing the forum search, it feels a bit redundant to add the [forum just searched] part in the text, but let me know if we want to add that back in.

Hi Ray -- this looks good. Can you please change "with some different keywords" to "with alternate search terms"?
