Description

In the early days of the Commons, we tried to get rich-text forum postings going through Tiny-MCE but wound up being stymied, and so we disabled the feature. Given the ways in which the dev team has grown in size and skill since then, I think it's time we revisited this. Interested to hear what you think.

  • Estimated time set to 10.00 h

I think this needs to wait for the move to bbPress 2.x, as well as HTML emails. 1.6 seems like a sensible milestone, assuming we do HTML emails for 1.5.

Moving to the 1.7 milestone due to time considerations.

Boone, I know we've implemented HTML emails; have we implemented bbPress 2.x?

  • Target version changed from 1.7 to 1.8

We've implemented bbPress 2.x, but rolling in HTML/rich-text is delicate, so I'd prefer to wait another version. That'll give us time to work out any kinks in the existing setup before we introduce these additional complications.

I think this just involves toggling a filter in bbPress to enable TinyMCE. (As a sidenote, I think we already force TinyMCE on in bbPress for CBOX.)

We'd also have to ensure that HTML emails work correctly. I think they should work out-of-the-box because of BP Group Email Subscription and WP Better Emails for BP, but this needs some testing.

Also bbp-live-preview.

Let's do this once and for all for 2.0.

Ray, a gut check - how hard will this be given the current state of email on the Commons? (BPGES + RBE + BP 2.6 emails)

BPGES + RBE is working correctly.

The only remaining issue here is our bbp-live-preview plugin. I did some work earlier in the week to bring bbp-live-preview up-to-date with the latest TinyMCE 4 changes (see commit b952761)

And fixed some minor issues with BPGES while doing some further testing today.

The new cdev environment can be used to test out rich-text forum content in groups. Note: RBE is not enabled in new cdev. If you need to test RBE in new cdev, let me know.

  • Status changed from Assigned to Testing Required

Just encountered a few other issues that are now fixed:
- Image button wasn't showing up in "Visual" tab
- Forum post preview was missing a few styles.

cdev is currently running 1.10.x branch, so those that want to further test this feature, please give it a try and let me know if you see anything missing or can find any bugs.

It looks like this is working well for the most part. Specific bugs are being reported in their own tickets. Let's close this one out. Thanks so much for your work on it, Ray!
